Career & Achievements: John commenced business life in the Chartered Accountancy profession and was a partner in 2 firms, one of which specialised in bankruptcy, liquidation and receivership work. In 1967 he moved from the profession to take a more "hands on" approach to management. He joined Howe & Co Pty Ltd and commenced an exciting involvement in the leather industry.
John led a team of two other executives and a private investor in a management buyout of Howe in 1977. John was appointed CEO. The ensuing period of 17 years saw the development of the company and the Howe Leather brand name. The business grew to become a major supplier of upholstery leather to the world furniture and automotive leather markets. Howe also acquired other businesses operating in the leather industry and rationalised their structures to develop a group of specialist operating companies.
